HOTEL GANIMEDE - GALAXIDI
Sculpture, poetry, painting and comedy have all represented the myth of Ganymede. Today in various museums you can find preserved frescoes that were unearthed at Pompeii with Ganymede portrayed as the main hero. And earlier artists such as Titian, Michelangelo and the Antonio da Correggio have depicted the charming myth of the abduction of this beautiful youth. A crown of Laurel as reported by Peisistratos was bestowed upon Ganymede by Zues for the services rendered by the beautiful shepherd boy from Troy.
Ganymede, in Greek mythology, was a deified mythical youth, famous for his beauty, from Troy. He was a prince of Troy, son of the King of Trojan from Dardania and Kallirois, daughter of the river - god Scamander. Zeus turned into eagle, grabbed him, and carried him to Olympus which gave him immortality and life eternal and it is there he lived as the cupbearer of the gods. As compensation, Zeus sent Hermes to offer on his behalf to the Trojan, the father of Ganymede, a pair of gorgopodaros horses which were as fast as the wind and a golden vine, which was the work of Hephaestus.
The ancients identified Ganymede with the god of the source of the River Nile and made him a constellation. In the zodiac, he is represented by Aquarius which personifies the inexhaustible source of water brought forth by the clouds which in turn fertilizes the earth.
